Components needed to build a traditional desiccant cooling system are:
Desiccant rotor.
Heating coil.
Energy recovery system.
Two evaporative humidifiers. |
These components are installed into any traditional air handling unit in a certain relation to each other. By controlling the components in sequences the system can provide cooling of supply air in summer operation.
|
A slightly modified version of the system is used to pre-cool and dehumidify supply air in installations using chilled beams or chilled ceilings. The purpose of the system in these installations is to avoid condensation to form up on the cold surface of the space cooling components and also to reduce size and load on traditional refrigerant plant.
|
During winter operation the system can be controlled to a energy recovery mode operating with higher efficiency than traditional systems. The result will be a reduction of costs for heating of supply air in winter conditions. |
